MAINSTER, STEVEN NEIL

May 24, 1941 - July 10, 2017

Steven Neil Mainster, age 76 passed away on July 10, 2017. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 24, 1941 to Murray & Ethel Mainster.

Steven served as the Executive Director of Centro Campesino Farmworker Center since it was founded in 1973. He dedicated his life advocating for farm workers throughout the US.

He served in the Peace Corps, in Peru. He served in Arequipa in 64-66 with his then wife, Barbara. My friends replaced them in their community in 66.

After returning from his tour in the Peace Corps to the US, he worked with Puerto Rican farm workers in upstate New York. He worked in farm worker communities of upstate New York.

After a few years of working in New York he was offered the opportunity to come to Florida to work with farm workers in South Miami Dade County. Some of his happier times were sailing around Biscayne Bay with his family.

Steven is survived by his loving wife Juanita and 6 children Ken Mainster, Jessie Mainster, Sarah Hall, Kim Bealer, Nick Sanchez, Gloria Sanchez-Lane & (deceased) Ricky Sanchez. Steven was proud to be called Grandpa by his 14 grandchildren as well as his 14 great grandchildren.
